Theme:Submit an idea on what a home of the future will be like Entry 1495: take an every day
item that you wear like a watch and place a transpoder in it so the homes master computer
can track were you are and adjust room lighting and temp to your preferred settings. It
can also learn your habits and save energy by not heating or cooling a room that you will
not enter at a given time of day. Such as when you are asleep or at work. The computer can
also send data to the watch to let you know who is calling with caller id and when the
door bell rings, even when your outside in the garden. -- Mike dull
Entry 1498: very
low maintenance,energy efficient(solar powered,wind turbine generators,etc.)self
sustained, computerized, walk into a room the temperature sensors will light up the room
and either lower or raise temperature to a comfortable setting. attics to be use as
brains, with comfortable temperatures so you can walk and make all kinds of wiring,
plumbing, cabling necessary, effortless, simple and low cost. -- Abraham Atencio
Entry 1505: We
would have ultra thin liquid plasma TV's hanging on our walls slaving to all our needs.
With the assistance of a TV buddy remote we would be able to surf the net with slight of
finger. We could open blinds and windows to let the beautiful summer air rush through our
electronic Eden. We could hail the Honda robot droid to serve us a refreshing snack, while
enjoying a melody in virtual 3d Dolby surround sound. We could monitor children at play in
the next room, while scanning their vital signs to make sure their healthy because little
Joey has the sniffles. Six o'clock time for the replicator to prepare dinner. Ding dong,
"who's at the door", I say to myself while scanning this person on the monitor,
the security system alerts the visitor saying "occupants of this household is
currently busy, please reframe yourself from the property, thank you." all of this is
all going on at one time. While kissing my wife saying life is good. The end -- Craig A.

Entry 1607: An
automated home in 2005 would probably be computerized voice activated. Door lock could be
programmed to recognize family member fingerprints. -- Phuong N Vo
Entry 1612: every
room would feature a flat screen monitor of appropriate size for the room with optional
touch screen, voice or keyboard controls allowing the residents access to zoned
temperature control, videophone, internet, e-mail, on-line shopping, unlimited channel
high-definition video viewer, programming and monitoring of interior and exterior lights,
and various kitchen/laundry appliances. Additional optional feature would be remote
programming and monitoring. Run by a home services server in the home with remote
functions handled by various content providers. -- Thomas Savage
Entry 1613: a
toilet that flushes before you get up, but after you are done using it. A shower that
automatic comes on with the wave of your hand under it, or if you wish to take a bath wave
your foot under the faucet, and when it is filled to certain point in the tub it shuts off
where it is safe for all ages. Front and back doors that unlock and open by saying a key
word when you are at it. Have entire house wired for phone and just say answer phone and
it picks up like a speaker phone. -- Germaine Henry Entry 1621= what I think a automated
home would be like in the year 2005, is that everything in the house will operate from a
central computerized system by remote control and this computer will be able to talk.
Every appliance such asTV's, radio,VCR,stove, microwave, refrigerator, stove, excetra and
houses will become portable you can take them anywhere. Instead of staying in a hotel when
you go on vacation, your home can travel with you, this would save people alot of money.
-- Villma Asijw
Entry 1633: I
think in the year 2005 the TV. will automatically come on when you go into the family room
and probably the v chip will be in place where nobody will be ably to watch any fighting
movies with there kids. Also I think that you will just rent movies any move that you type
into you cable box and you will automatically be able to watch it right then. Also there
will be one remote not 5 or 6 that is what I think the year 2005 will bring. -- Lance

Entry 1650: home
networking which allows your 5 inch thick, 40 inch wide screen TV to be the entertainment
center, and the display to the security system and the telephone. Remote control has
configurable buttons. Buttons are displayed depending upon which setup you are using.
Remote knows if you have the home theater system on, and volume control does wither the
TV, or the home theater. If the volume is low or mute, subtitles appear. The 200 DVD
changer is in the basement and can play 2 disks, each signal is routed to the correct TV.
TV decoder has 4 tuners, which you can set to display a set of channels at commercial
breaks. Screen splits to display controls and channel on one side, and web information on
the other. -- David valentine
Entry 1655: I
will be able to walk to my door, and by my voice, the door will open without a standard
key. Once in my home, a computer will say "welcome, you have mail":) and my
snail mail will have already been deposited through the slot in my door. The computer
voice will then say, you received 15 phone messages today, only two were important, the
others from telemarketers were not allowed to ring through. Then the computer voice will
say, "your dinner is ready. Please eat and then relax, everything is taken care
of." ahhh, yes, what bliss -- P. Mitchell
Entry 1798: You
wake to the gentle sound of music as the lights in your room slowly brighten. you look
across at the view screen on the wall and see the city as the early morning sun emerges
from behind the mountains, underneath the "live" picture is a scrolling display
of the days weather report. there is a whoosh and a whir as a droid rolls into the room
and presents you with a freshly brewed cup of coffee. "thank you James", you say
to the room. "you are welcome, sir" comes the reply. "excuse me sir, you
have mail...", "show me the message James" you reply. the image on the view
screen is replaced with the email message. quickly you read it and then say "reply to
message James" and the computer switches to dictation mode. you speak your reply to
the hidden microphone in room and the speech recognition system automatically turns it
into typing for you. "send the message James" you say when you have finished.
"I'm ready for a shower James", "very good sir" the computer replies
and turns on the water so that by the time you get there it has already heated to the
correct temperature. while you are getting dressed, James reads your schedule for the day
-- "... at 10:00 you have a meeting with...". "excuse me sir, there is
someone at the door". "on screen" you reply, instantly you see a picture of
your front door and you see that there is a special delivery package. "I'll be there
in a minute" you say over the intercom connection. "please start the car now,
I'm ready to leave". "very good sir", James replies as he opens the garage
door and starts the engine so that the car will be warm and ready for you. later that day,
the house droid connects to the vacuum cleaner attachment and cleans the floor while
another droid mows the lawn. -- Erik Perrohe
Entry 2200: While
you are sleeping, an inferred monitoring device checks your body's temperature and rises
or lowers the room's heat or air conditioner accordingly. -- Robert Siegel
Entry 2144: No
walls; moveable walls; redesign floor plan with interior design software anytime you want.
Only the plumbing would be in fixed position. Lighting is all moveable except lighting
directly above plumbed-in items. Programmable telephone so that a central answering
machine will answer all incoming lines, including turning on a modem to receive incoming
data when necessary. Security systems, of course, and a remove to start the car and warm
it up in the morning. -- Carole Lezak
