Entry 856: I heard in the news yesterday that Sharon stone (one of my favorite
actresses) gave her 3 handguns and a shotgun to the police. She announced to every kook
and stalker in California that her household is disarmed! X10 to the rescue! To give the
home a "lived in" look, she can time her lights randomly with the ActiveHome
package. Throw in Robodog triggered by a few Hawkeye II motion sensors for good measure
for any prowlers in the area. Sharon can install the Protector Plus Security System to
monitor her house and (with a monitoring service)
automatically call the police in the event of a break in. With the keychain remote and the
big red security switches, every room can have the safety and security those guns gave
her. Sharon, please give x10 a call! I'm still hoping to see you in basic instinct 2! --

Entry 188: Bill Gates could use AvtiveHome to turn the lights off at Netscape,
IBM, Oracle and Janet Reno's house! -- John Mitchell
Entry 35: The same way us mundane, run-of-the-mill people do: turn on the
coffemaker in the morning, so it's ready when you are, get the hot-tub all revved up for a
little soak, and turn on the lights and stereo as you walk into the kitchen. (and the TV
and multimedia system when you walk into the den.) then, keep those nasty paparazzi at bay
with motion-sensing floodlights, and a top-notch security system if anyone tries jimmying
the lock. and if someone is sneaking around, with the touch of a button, the monitoring
service is alerted, and police dispatched ASAP! -- Andrew Bender
Entry 489: Contact dr. Steve Mann - he is the premiere spokesperson for
'mediated reality', which is an extension of wearable computing. his systems are hooked to
radio links around campus. the extension of his systems to home& office control are
obvious. he's a celebrity in his field, anyway. some examples - view visitors to his
office while walking down the street; receive an email/call from someone saying his house
is on fire or being burgled, check the sensors around the house to confirm or not, even
while driving or walking. (steve can actually play squash while wearing opaque sunglasses
with tiny video screens on them, playing the video from the cameras also built into the
glasses.) -- Gary E Bickford
Entry 771: A celebrity would use the activehome system with voice control and
motion sensors. when walking in a room the lights would automatically turn on and they
would turn off a little while after leaving. voice control would allow dimming the lights
and turning on appliances and media equipment. activity in other rooms that are supposed
to be unoccupied would be alerted via "dog-barking" alarms or silent means. --
