Entry 115: peace
of mind, that's what x-10 and activehome gives you. going away for a long weekend? let
activehome help. set up the away scenario with a "leaving house" macro. with the
push of a button on the handy slimfire remote, activehome could systematically handle all
the last minute tasks. these could include turning off all unnecessary house lights,
putting the entry way lights on with a timed off schedule to allow a well lit departure.
with the use of a thermostat setback controller, the house temperature could be reduced to
conserve energy. in addition, with the use of appliance modules you could ensure the
coffee maker, iron, curling iron or other potential fire hazard appliances are turned off.
no more wondering an hour into the trip "did i turn off the coffee maker?". for
added security, to give the house a lived in look, set up timed events to cycle different
lights in the house on and off. with an additional appliance module you could also turn
the tv on and off for that added look of authenticity. if you know when you will be
returning, you could set up a timed macro to adjust the house temperature and turn on
welcoming lights for your return. -- Steven leiz Votes194
Entry 69: when
returning from a trip, i would call my activehome via the touch tone controller to let it
know when i will be arriving home. an hour before i get home, the thermostat set-back
controller would be told to return the temperature to normal. 30 minutes before i get
home, my computer would be turned back on so it could log on automatically and retrieve my
email. 15 minutes before i get home, the coffee pot would be turned on for morning
arrivals, and if it is dusk or later the outside lights would be turned on for my arrival.
if it is late at night, and i am going straight to bed, my electric blanket would be
turned on. when i walk in the door, everything is ready for me to relax at home again. --

Entry 29: when i
am away from my home, i would like to use the active home kit to give my house that lived
in look. i would have the lights go on and off in little day to day macros. i would also
couple the active home system to video cameras and my computer. my computer is hooked up
online 24 hours a day through a cable modem. i would connect hawkeye motion detectors in
conjunction with video camers to keep a watch out for any motion through out the house.
once motion is detected, the computer would capture the video from the associated camera.
i can access my computer from any where on the internet and view the captured video. i
could have an "activehawkeye" view of my home from any where in the world. i
know that this would give me a total piece of mind. -- Carolyn dirico

Entry 96: using
the activehome products to simulate your presence in the house while you are away is a
given. with a little time creating the macros, this becomes a 'rosie the robot' assistant
around the home. and why limit it just to the home, these devices are perfect for remote
server power cycling at work. . . now, i can stay at home and log into my servers with
timbuktu pro, and if there is an os crash, just cycle the power!(a network admin's dream)
after all, this is what this type of tech is for. . .total automation! -- Rob blairEntry
